Watson's Tin Box February Meeting Announcement
WATSON’S TIN BOX
“A Singular Set of People”
GREETINGS! About The Mycroft… It was a room full of lovers of Sherlock and Watson and especially good company. The food was delicious. How could you turn down cupcakes that didn’t make it through the first hurdle at the Wessex cup? Or Devil’s Foot eggs? The quiz was amazing, as always. Beth set them up as Victorian telegrams. Thank you, Beth for the little hints and the color-coding. The time and effort is mind-boggling.
The game is afoot once again….
“Come if convenient. If inconvenient, come all the same.”
The next irregular gathering of Watson’s Tin Box of Ellicott City, Md., will be held to discuss topics both Canonical and Conanical. Dress is, as always, informal.
NOTICE OF UPCOMING MEETING
DATE: Monday, February 27th, 2012
TIME: Precisely at 7:00 p.m.
PLACE: Houlihan's (Columbia/Elkridge) See below for map and directions.
RESERVATIONS
Please let Pat Ruth know that you will attend by 12:00 noon, Saturday, February 25th. Email me at Patruth0212@verizon.net or leave a voicemail at my home phone at 410-583-7002.
Please note: The dinner price has been running around $25. If possible, please bring small bills to facilitate the payment of the check at the close of the meeting.
THE ADVENTURE DU JOUR--The Musgrave Ritual
The butler did it. Even that great lady of British mysteries, Dame Agatha Christie, never had ‘the butler do it’. But Doyle does and in a most puzzling story.
TOASTS: The first toast will be to The Woman. All subsequent toasts, in honor of our late founder, Paul Churchill, will be made to “The Help, both criminal and/or incompetent” in the Canon.
THE EVENING TALK: Jacquelynn Morris, US Ambassador for The Undershaw Preservation Trust, will speak on Undershaw, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's former home in Hindhead, Surrey, England. Awhile back you heard from her about the current deplorable conditions of Undershaw and the campaign to save it. This will be an update from a meeting in Hindhead on February 16 that Jacquelynn attended, along with the founder and co-founders of UPT, other UPT Ambassadors, and several supporters of the campaign. She will have information on new developments and plans in anticipation of a Judicial Review scheduled for May, as well as information on how you can help save Undershaw.
THE KILLER QUIZ: Tantalus Fred Campbell will embark us upon a quiz for this adventure. Don’t forget to bring a pencil, pen or quill and your extensive knowledge of the canon.
NEW OFFERINGS: If you have a bit of Sherlockian scholarship or entertainment, please contact your Gasogene.
If you would like to present the toast to The Woman (before being volunteered by the Gasogene), please speak up. Don’t be shy. Otherwise, I may contact you first and put you on the spot.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the next meeting, where “it is always eighteen ninety-five,” I am...
